Comics, Comic Books, Their Origins and Their Influence
Welcome to Four Color Separation!
Our podcast and blog cover the universe of comic strips and comic books: what they are, how they came to be, and how they expanded far beyond their panels to movies, television, literature and other media. "Four color separation" refers to the traditional printing process for comics and comic books, where images would be broken down into four different colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black, abbreviated as CMYK), and dots of each color would be separately printed onto the page. When viewed together, they would reproduce the original colors of the image. The four color separation process gave comic pages their distinctive dot-filled appearance to which artists like Roy Lichtenstein paid tribute in their works.

Welcome to Four Color Separation, where Jonathan Ezor and Jeffrey Lindenblatt will discuss comic strips, comic books, where they come from, where they’ve been and where they’re going! We’ll look at the actual comics, the many other media in which their characters appear (and sometimes from which they come), and anything else comics.
